Construction on this project is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2019. Located across the street from VRC’s North Coast Veterans Resource Center, this new facility will provide 25 permanent supportive apartments for homeless veterans and 25 apartments for other homeless people. All residents will have incomes below 50% of median income in Humboldt County, which has the largest homeless population per capita in California. Services offered will include case management, behavioral health treatment, employment training, and job placement. Amenities will include a rooftop community garden and patio, Energy Star appliances, and wiring for internet and cable television. Funding comes from California’s Veteran Housing and Homelessness Prevention Program, 9% tax credits, and rent supports from the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program and Humboldt County.
